Maryland’s Uninsured Employers’ Fund Gets a Penalty Increase Against Uninsured Employers
Earlier this year, Maryland’s Uninsured Employers’ Fund (UEF) gained success with the passing of Senate Bill 216, which sought to increase the penalty from $10,000 to $25,000 against those employers who do not carry workers’ compensation insurance as required by Maryland law. Effective as of July 1, 2024, Maryland’s Labor & Employment § 9-407(b)(2) and (c)(2) reflects this increase, and the same will be imposed on uninsured Employers starting October 1, 2024.
