F&P Employee Spotlight on Counsel Theresa L. Teixeira

What is a lesson that you have learned in the past year?
You can’t always win, and sometimes you will not know why. In my practice area of WC, we get decisions/orders that may not make sense, and they never include a rationale for the decision. I struggled with this for so long because I wanted/needed to be able to try to explain or make sense of the order to our client.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
You can’t control the way others think or feel- and the Ravens are better than the Commanders.

What was your first job?
I was a waitress at a pizza place in Harendale Mall called Italian Delight.

What is your practice area, and how did you choose it?
Workers’ Compensation. When I was in undergrad at UConn, law firms in Connecticut in the early 90’s were not big on interns, even though we “worked” for free. I had a friend who was working as a paralegal for an attorney who focused on WC, who went on to become one of the first Board Certified WC Specialist in Connecticut. I met him at a school function and realized we had a prior work history of being an EMT in common and doing the same thing- working and paying our way through college and then law school. He offered me the internship I needed and then hired me after graduation. During my time at his firm, I learned so much and feel like this is the area of law I was meant to be in.

What is your favorite thing about working with your clients?
Building collegial relationships with adjusters and employers with common goals of resolving claims effectively and economically.

What is your favorite aspect of working at F&P?
The mentorship, teamwork, and ongoing firm-wide CLEs.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
I am the first in my family to graduate college.

Tell us something about you that few of your colleagues and clients would know.
I don’t really watch a lot of TV. I’m a Lego-head, yarn-user, and book nerd.

If you could have lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

F&P Employee Spotlight on Counsel Marni E. Davenport

What is your favorite aspect of working at F&P?
It sounds cliché, but the best part about my job is the group of people I work with. I’ve become friends with several of my colleagues and have made connections with clients and mentors in the legal world.

What was your first job?
My first job was as a hostess at a local restaurant called Artful Gourmet when I was in high school. I worked there on and off for several years. I met so many people and made so many incredible connections. Unfortunately, the restaurant has since closed, but I’ve maintained many of the friendships I made there.

What do you like to do outside of the office?
I love traveling, exploring new cities, and trying new restaurants. My husband and I traveled to Florence, Italy in 2024 for our honeymoon. We loved it so much that we went back in 2025. The food, wine, and atmosphere are incredible. We are currently in the process of deciding where our next travel adventures will take us.

What is your favorite food?
I’m not sure I could pick one favorite. Pasta is up there, as is anything chocolate.

What is a lesson that you have learned in the past year?
You can’t control every outcome, but you can control your preparation, strategy, and response. That’s where the real impact is. It’s easy to be discouraged with a bad outcome, but there are many things that are not within our control—such as other people’s opinions, other people’s actions, or unexpected events. Peace of mind comes from focusing on what you can control. Last year, I read “The Daily Stoic,” by Ryan Holiday, which provides one key piece of wisdom each day from philosophers. This is one of the lessons that stuck out to me.

What is your practice area, and how did you choose it?
Liability defense. I defend a wide range of cases, from slip and fall and auto tort claims to medical malpractice and wrongful death cases. When I clerked for Judge Deeley in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County after law school, I was exposed to all areas of the law—family law, criminal law, civil law, and guardianship matters. I was really intrigued by civil law and procedure and was able to watch very bright lawyers in the courtroom, including a few attorneys from F&P. I began working at F&P after my clerkship and have been here for over seven years.

Do you have any book or movie recommendations?
I prefer TV shows over movies. I’m currently watching Tell Me Lies, The Pitt, and Summer House. The Sopranos is my all-time favorite TV show.

Do you have any bizarre talents?
I can juggle. I learned in elementary school, and it has stuck with me ever since!

If you had an eighth day every week, how would you spend it?
Resting and re-charging. I love self-care, and I think there should be one day every week (or more!) dedicated to treating yourself.

F&P Employee Spotlight on Counsel Michael P. Divver

What is your favorite aspect of working at F&P?
My colleagues at work are definitely the best part of the job. We talk socially every day about anything and everything. Over the years we have gotten close. The interactions are not limited to just work. We invite each other to social events and stay in touch. We also help each other and have a laugh while at it. Additionally, the leadership at the firm have been great mentors. I learn from them every day and have significantly improved as an attorney because of it.

What was your first job?
My first job was working with my father in construction during summer breaks. We would wake up every morning at 3am, and drive from Columbia, Maryland to Washington D.C. to avoid traffic. I learned first-hand what goes into building large structures and the several different trades involved in doing it. The pay was great, but it was frustrating being on a completely different sleep schedule as all my friends.

What do you like to do outside of the office?
I play rugby three times a week. Other than the broken bones over the years, I thoroughly enjoy the exercise, traveling, and camaraderie that comes with it. I also enjoy snowboarding. My wife and I have traveled throughout the world to snowboard, from Italy, France, Switzerland, Canada, and throughout the continental United States. I also enjoy riding bikes and playing video games with my friends when I am not spending time with my growing family. My wife and I are expecting a baby in March 2026.

What is your favorite food?
My colleagues all know I love chicken wings. The spicier the better. All of my colleagues around the office know I handle the spiciness very well. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoy Maryland Blue Crabs. I actually steam them myself in the summer.

Do you have any pets?
I have a soft spot when it comes to adopting animals. It is hard for me to say no when one needs a home. We currently have two cats, Goober and Bun Bun, two dogs, Sweetie and Motley, and over twenty fish (only some of them have names). The fish collection actually started when I won a goldfish at the local carnival, and I decided it needed a bigger tank. My wife tells me that we are officially capped on pets, so I am officially banned from rescuing anymore for the time being.

What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell myself that the limits that I believed I had were self-imposed. Too often, we choose to limit ourselves based on insecurities. It is only when we push ourselves that we can move past our so-called limitations.

What is your practice area, and how did you choose it?
I practice Workers’ Compensation. This is a field that I have known for many years, as my father was a long-time workers’ compensation attorney.

What is your favorite aspect of working at F&P?
The people. My colleagues are incredibly knowledgeable and competent. They are always open to collaboration and assisting when anyone needs help.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest personal accomplishment was finishing a 140.6 Ironman in 2018. It was something my mentor challenged and encouraged me to do, and I am really proud to have completed it.
